The Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Division of the Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India and SASTRA University are jointly establishing a National Facility for Herbo Metallic studies. The objective of this Research Centre are as follows:

  • Standardization and quality control of herbomineral and herbo-metallic preparations used in Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha systems of Medicine
  • Standardize popular classical berbo-metallic preparations described in Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha systems of Medicine
  • Document the History of use of herbo-metallic preparations and to observe/evaluate safety profile of classical herbo-metallic preparations.
  • Determine the final chemical nature of herbometallic preparations
  • Evaluate physico-chemical properties of common bhasmas prepared from metals and minerals
  • Evaluate safety profile of each of the bhasmas commonly used in Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha systems of Medicine
  • Evaluate the absorption, bo-transfomation and elimination (pharmacokinetics) of Bhasmas
  • Evaluate the therapeutic use of Bhasmas and herbometallic preparations
  • Pharmaco-vigilance of popular herbo-metallic preparations described in Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha systems of Medicine
  • Human resource development by conducting training programmes
